Yes, we're a small isle floating over the vast oceans. But good things come in small packages, haha! We've become a closely knit family who has grown together over the years. How often can we say hi to a friend whom we happen to meet by coincidence while walking down orchard road?
So what is it we like about Singapore? Is it the elysian food we have, or our hardworking people? The great shopping or the laudable cleanliness we enjoy? Or our very own unique brand of English - Singlish? We'd be living here for many years to come, so why not take some pride in what our country's good for?
We had a poll on our blog where people voted for what they liked most in Singapore. Here are the results!
Here're some interviews we had with a few fellow Singaporeans regarding what they like about Singapore. It's a good time to reflect on what's good about our nation as we approach NDP. Don't we think of a person's good points when we write them a card for their birthday? haha.

Singapore has loads to be proud of! The local cuisine which consists of a variety of mouth-watering specialties ranging from Asian delights such as laksa, char kway teow, bee hoon to western delicacies such as sirloin steak, rib eye steak etc. Just check out Astons and Botak Jones! The world accredited house brand “Bread Talk” was also originated from our very own Singapore! Original? What about Bread Pitt!? Uh.. that’s another story.
People-wise? Yeah Singapore is a cosmopolitan city that boasts a variety of races and religions. Add these different cultures together, and polishing up every ‘imperfections’ has resulted in the making of the ultimate, unique and ‘perfect’ Singapore culture LOR.
Yeah LAR, Singlish is what makes us special and in addition this Singaporean accent has attained world-class attention and accolade. Despite the grammatical flaws, there have been foreigners who have commented that Singlish is ‘sexy’ and ‘cool’. You decide. Shopping is so-so only. There are way more attractive places to shop elsewhere. Singapore is obviously a clean country. Though many would claim that cleanliness in Singapore has been overrated, it is because they have compared it against utopian standards. To me, uniqueness would be the most important factor in deciding my favourite.. and that would be Singlish LAH! ---By a 20 year-old NSF

I simply love the food in Singapore as it ranges from western to eastern or fusion which is a blend of both western and eastern. Not only is the food tasty, and nice to eat, mainly I love it because it is clean, even at hawker centres. You can see important looking executives eating at our hawker centres, including the expatriates from overseas so they must be thinking that the food is clean enough for them to eat. Unlike if you go overseas in other Asian cities I don't think the food especially those in hawker centres are as clean as ours. Eating at hawker centres is also cheap so where else can you get good and clean food? Sunny Singapore of course! ---By a 60 year-old accountant

Some random thoughts? In the order i like: food, ease of transportation (added this in herself), shopping, cleanliness. Food because there is a wide variety to choose from since we are a multi-racial country. Food is relatively affordable unless you choose to dine at air conditioned places all the time (which is hard not to because s'pore is so humid, haha!) improvements in the mrt network really make traveling much less troublesome. Shopping is decent here in Singapore. Cleanliness is overall good especially when compared to our neighbouring countries. However there is still much room for improvement because the quality of cleanliness is not uniform. ---By a University Student

What I like? Hmmmm...
1. The food. Durians of course, and the chilli crabs and char kway teow... marvellous!
2. The people. Singaporeans are generally charitable at heart and willing to contribute for worthy causes when the need arises. See the high donation amounts at charity shows and you will know!
3. Shopping. There is a shopping mall at nearly your doorstep wherever you may live! Aside from the top end ones in the central area like orchard taka, there are less expensive alternative shopping centres at almost every MRT stop!
4. Singlish. Not very averse to the usage, provided that it is not overly mis-used. At working places, it is still recommended to speak professional english or fellow colleagues that are caucasians may not understand your "lor, and lahs". But Singlish, I think, actually binds fellow singaporeans together: when you hear someone speak singlish in foreign places, immediately, you know that person is Singaporean!
5. Cleanliness of Singapore. To a certain extent, except the toilets, public areas are generally clean. ---By a middle-aged business woman

Well, seems like the best things in Singapore are free and available for us. We can feel at home with our fellow people, enjoy the way we speak, partake of great food easily. We can live each day, knowing that the sweetest things in life/Singapore are around us all the time. We needn't search too far. So lets reach out and share the good things we have with everyone.
